INTERNET RALLIES BEHIND NEW RATING STANDARD
Thousand Oaks, Calif.- Bringing the reality of a child safe Internet within reach, a multitude of sites accounting for over 3000 World Wide Web pages and four leading cyberporn filtering companies have rallied to support the SafeSurf(TM) Internet Rating Standard, announced SafeSurf at Kid's World '95.
Everything is now set for the establishment of safe cyber-playground by September," said Ray Soular, Chairman of SafeSurf, a parents' on-line organization leading the crusade to provide safe haven for children on the Internet. "We thank the Internet community for allowing schools to be able to enter cyberspace without fear," added Soular.
The four software companies that have promised to release a version that supports the URL, HTML, or single file features of the SafeSurf Rating Standard are CYBERsitter by Solid Oak, SurfWatch by SurfWatch, Net Nanny by Net Nanny, and InterGO by TeacherSoft. The CYBERsitter version currently being shipped already supports the single file features of the SafeSurf Standard.
"The beauty of the Standard is that it takes less than five minutes and costs nothing to mark a site and save the Internet," explained President Wendy Simpson, adding that the SafeSurf Web Headquarters located at http://www.safesurf.com/ contains step by step instructions. "Every child safe site that wants to be accessible to children and schools should mark themselves," said Simpson.
